ARCHIVED - The rain has made the potholes in Cartagena roads worse
2.4 kilometres of the road into Cartagena from the A-30 are “put drivers at risk” after the heavy rains

Residents in Cartagena are up in arms about potholes that have cracked open on the northern access road to the city, which have become bigger and “filled with mud, as there is not even any asphalt left” due to the rain that has washed over the Region of Murcia in the last few weeks.
The worst affected road is the stretch that runs from the exit of the A-30 motorway to the Tejeras petrol station, in total, some 2.4 kilometres. According to local residents, “the entire road is damaged, but especially the right-hand lane”.

On the same road is the Camino del Sifón roundabout, which was so flooded during the rains that it was impassable. The road surface of the Ronda Transversal has also partially given way in several sections.“Every day, dozens of drivers risk their lives with these potholes. These are the accesses to the tourist capital of the Region, said one Cartagena resident, who demanded the Town Hall take action. “When will they be fixed? How many tyres have to burst?”
Meanwhile, less than a week ago there was a collapse of part of the roadway on the RM-22 regional road linking Cartagena with Isla Plana and La Azohía, in the Cuestas del Cedacero, also as a result of the rains.
Thankfully, the worst of the rain is set to pass by the end of this week and we will see sun at the weekend, but the problems the storms have left may last much longer if no one takes responsibility for these issues soon.
