ARCHIVED - Unprecedented high temperatures ring in the New Year for Murcia
The forecast predicts temperatures of 20º and above across the Region of Murcia

The unusually high temperatures are set to continue on New Year’s Eve and into 2022 in the Region of Murcia, with the warmest December 31 on record set to scorch the Region.
A combination of climate change and the subtropical anticyclone travelling across the Spanish peninsula are expected to cause the hottest New Year’s Eve since records began, with temperatures over ten degrees higher than the December average forecast for Friday afternoon (December 31).
Municipalities across the Region are preparing for temperatures of over 20º, including Molina de Segura, Murcia city, Torre-Pacheco and more. Lorca is expected to reach an incredibly high temperature of 24º at around 3pm, possibly breaking the record-high temperature of 24.9ºC.
Even the northernmost and high-altitude areas of the Region are set to experience positively spring-like weather on December 31, including Caravaca, Calasparra and Yecla, meaning that the Region of Murcia will have to wait a while longer for the first proper snowfall of the season. Along the coast, in Cartagena, Mazarrón, Águilas and the Mar Menor municipalities, the pleasant weather is expected to continue into the weekend.
