August 19 to 25 Annual fiestas in the Sierra Espuña village of El Berro
The fiestas in the Alhama village are held in honour of the Virgen de los Dolores
The village of El Berro, in the foothills of Sierra Espuña, is 14 kilometres north-west of Alhama de Murcia and although it is home to only around 200 permanent residents, the population swells considerably during the summer months due to the importance of rural tourism in the area.
This is further boosted by the campsite, and the increased population enjoys the annual fiestas every year at the end of August, held in honour of the patron of El Berro, the Virgen de los Dolores.
The program for the 2025 fiestas includes the following:
Saturday August 9
9.00: A charity breakfast for all in the Plaza Mayor.
9.30: The El Berro duathlon, running and cycling race starting in La Cañá and finishing in the Plaza Mayor. All age categories are represented, registration 30 minutes before the start.
18.30: A football party at the Coliseo Nicolás Martínez "La Chota", followed by live music at Restaurante La Parra.
Sunday August 10
10.30: Crazy cars rally, the “Campeonato de Autos Locos Berreños”, from the door of "La Beatriz" to Restaurante La Parra.
Tuesday August 19
16.30: FIFA competition at the Casa de la Cultura.
18.15: Painting competition in the Plaza Mayor (registration openuntil August 16).
19.00: Caliche tournament in the car park.
22.30: Open-air cinema (Las Escuelas).
Wednesday August 20
An all-day display of local food produce.
16.30: Porras championship at the Casa de la Cultura.
18.00: A “cintas” race for children, requiring dexterity on a bike (age up to 14).
18.30: El Berro Póker Tour at the Casa de la Cultura.
19.30: A tasting of local food produce.
20.00: An evening of beer, music and dancing in the Plaza Mayor.
22.30: Open-air cinema (Las Escuelas).
Thursday August 21
17.00: Decoration workshop at the Casa de la Cultura.
20.00: Zumba with Sara López in the Plaza Mayor.
23.00: Mobile disco in the Plaza Mayor.
Friday August 22
18.00: The official start of the fiestas at the Casa de la Cultura.
18.30: A “cintas” race for adults, requiring dexterity on a bike. Music from Los Mixtos.
19.30: The 4th annual Migas-making competition in memory of Eulalia Sánchez Cava.
20.30: Barbecue for all and a desserts competition in the car park of the campsite.
23.00: The opening speech of the fiestas is given by Juan Antonio López García.

0.15: Election of the Fiestas King and Queen for 2025.

11.30: Bat workshop and exhibition organized by the staff of the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña.
13.30: Charity lunch with paella supplied by Domingo Ponce, ham by Juanito, expertly sliced by David García. All proceeds to AFACMUR.
18.00: The Grand Float Parade sets out from the church, with the drummers of the group Kultrun. Registration open until August 17.
22.30: Live music from Dúo Nueva Ruta.
0.15: The Berreño/a del Año awards ceremony.
1.00: Live music from Los Happys.
3.00: Firecrackers for the barmaids (“Las chicas de la barra”).
3.15: A Fiesta Glow session with DJ Pipe Remember.

Oficina de Turismo de Alhama de Murcia
Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.
The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
