August 23 to September 7 ECOS ancient music festival in the Sierra Espuña area of Murcia
A series of concerts is being held in Alhama de Murcia, Aledo, Librilla, Mula, Pliego and Totana
The festival showcases early music performed by national and international artists in the spectacular scenery of Sierra Espuña
The ECOS festival, which has become a fixture in the late summer cultural calendar of Murcia in recent years and is now celebrating its 8th edition, also offers guided tours, nature hikes and local food tastings, and full details can be found in Spanish at the festival website ecosfestival.com (where online ticket sales can also be found for individual events).
The schedule also includes “family concerts” during the morning, making the music available to audiences of all ages.
The programme for the three weekends of music in 2024 is as follows:
Friday August 23
21.00: CANTORÍA in the patio of the Convento de San Francisco in Mula. Admission 15 euros.
Saturday August 24
12.00: FLUTES & FRETS in a family concert in the refectory of the Convento de San Francisco in Mula. Admission 5 euros.
21.00: FLUTES & FRETS perform at the small church of Los Remedios in Pliego. Admission 5 euros.
Friday August 30
22.00: EL CONCIERTO SECRETO in the Plaza de la Iglesia in Librilla. Admission 5 or 10 euros.
Saturday August 31
12.00: ENSEMBLES of the ORCHESTRA OF THE UNIVERSIDAD DE MURCIA in a family concert at the Los Baños archaeological museum. Admission 3 euros.
22.00: ANACRONIA perform at the Los Baños archaeological museum in Alhama de Murcia. Admission 5 or 10 euros.
Friday September 6
21.00: AYRES EXTEMPORAE in the gardens of the Santuarrio de La Santa in Totana. Admission 5 or 10 euros.
Saturday September 7
12.00: AYRES EXTEMPORAE in a family concert at the castle of Aledo. Admission 3 euros.
19.00, 21.00 and 23.00: Three 40-minute concerts by MÉNESTREL in the picturesque setting of the Estrecho de la Arboleja in Aledo. Admission 6 euros.
Oficina de Turismo de Alhama de Murcia
Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.
The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
