The free tours offer a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the history of the Murcia town
The Roman Theatre in Cartagena is extending its opening hours over the Bank Holiday weekend to mark Constitution Day in Spain (December 6), offering guided tours and family activities.The theatre will be open 10am to 6pm from Sunday December 5 through to Wednesday December 8.The program of guided tours and family activity is as follows:
Saturday December 411am: Guided tour of ancient Carthago Nova starting at the Roman Theatre Museum where the splendour of the Empire will be explained. The route will continue to the Roman Forum Museum, home of the Curia, the Baths, and the sanctuary of the goddess Isis, along with its large and luxurious paintings and mosaics. The tour will be rounded with a traditional Mediterranean tapas tasting session.11.30am: Guided tour from the Roman Theatre Museum to the Domus Pórtico.Sunday December 511am: Guided tour of Cartagena sabor Tres Culturas (Cartagena taste of three cultures) revealing the medieval history and the confluence of the three cultures, Christian, Jewish and Muslim. It will start at the Ascensor Panorámico (panoramic lift), heading to the Castillo de la Concepción, from where the whole city can be seen and the medieval period will be explained. The visit continues around the Church of Santa María la Mayor until it reaches the Museum of the Roman Theatre, followed by an opportunity to sample a medieval-inspired tapa called 'Gloria Bendita' (Blessed Glory).11am: Family 'Come to the Theatre' activity at Roman Theatre Museum.For more information, call 968 504 802 or 968 500 093.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
