ARCHIVED - Bathers save a 67-year-old drowning woman at Cartagena beach
Members of the public pulled the unconscious woman from the sea at La Azohía beach in the Murcia municipality

The rapid response of fellow bathers helped save the life of a drowning woman at La Azohía beach in Cartagena on Tuesday afternoon, June 28.
The 67-year-old passed out in the water and fellow beachgoers jumped into action, dragging the unconscious woman to the shoreline and alerting the Emergency Coordination Centre 112 just after 5pm.
Lifeguards from a nearby surveillance post, a rapid response vehicle from Civil Protection Cartagena, Local Police and a Mobile Unit (EMU) from the 061 Emergency and Health Emergency Management Service were immediately sent to the scene where they found the woman suffering from submersion syndrome.
The lifeguards and a nurse from Civil Protection Cartagena quickly began applying oxygen therapy to recover the bather's oxygen saturation level and consciousness. Meanwhile, EMU personnel continued with resuscitation and stabilisation techniques before the woman was transferred to Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena for further treatment.
