Body found in Tenerife confirmed as missing teenager Jay Slater
A post-mortem has identified the remains as belonging to the Brit who disappeared in Spain last month
The body discovered by a search and rescue team near the village of Masca on Monday July 15 has been officially identified as Jay Slater, the 19-year-old Lancashire tourist who went missing on June 17 after attending the NRG music festival in Tenerife.
According to a Spanish court, a post-mortem conducted on the remains this Tuesday morning confirmed his identity and the officials added that his death was caused by “trauma consistent with a fall in a rocky area.”
Jay’s body was located in a steep, inaccessible part of the mountain, close to where his phone signal was last picked up. Members of the Guardia Civil said that the teen most likely fell and died from his injuries.
The High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands said in a statement: “We have a positive identification and more data: fingerprint tests show that the body is [that] of Jay Slater and that the death was caused by trauma consistent with a fall in a rocky area.”
Jay’s last contact was with fellow holidaymaker Lucy Law, who took to Instagram following the tragic news to pay tribute to her pal.
“Honestly lost for words. Always the happiest and most smiley person in the room, you was (sic) one of a kind Jay and you’ll be missed more than you know.”
Ms Law’s tribute continued: “I’m sure you’ll ‘have your dancing shoes polished and ready’ waiting for us all.
“We all love you buddy. Fly high.”
