ARCHIVED - Body of a young freediver found off Fuerteventura coast
The young man went missing on Wednesday, July 28, in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
The emergency services in Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) have found the body of a young man who went missing on Wednesday (July 28) while freediving in the Salinas del Carmen area.
At around 9.26pm on Wednesday night, 112 services received a phone call alerting them that someone had gone into the water to freedive, but hadn’t come out.
A search team was then deployed, including Guardia Civil and Policía Local officers, firefighters, Maritime Rescue services and operatives from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) in the Canary Islands.
Operatives from the Special Subaquatic Activity Group (GEAS) sadly located his body at 3.15pm on Thursday (July 29) around 300 metres off the coast at a depth of 18 metres.
The body has been transferred to the Castillo dock, where the judicial authority is located, so that the appropriate procedures for an investigation can be carried out.
