British arms dealer on the run arrested at Barcelona airport
The fugitive was captured while on holiday in Spain with his children
An elusive British criminal, on the run from justice and subject to an international arrest warrant from Interpol, has been arrested while enjoying a few days away in Spain. The fugitive is allegedly the leader of an illegal arms trafficking gang.
Officers from the Guardia Civil picked up the UK citizen at El Prat airport in Barcelona on August 2 while he was waiting for his children to land. He’s currently living in China but had organised to meet his kids in Spain for a holiday.
According to the police force, officers deployed “a very discreet device” in Terminal 1 of Barcelona Airport to monitor the fugitive while he waited for the plane to touch down. As soon as the Briton was positively identified, police arrested him. He was reportedly “very surprised by his arrest” and did not resist.
The arrest was a result of a joint operation by the Guardia Civil’s Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (Udaiff), the Judicial Police Team and the Fugitives from Justice Team of the Central Operative Unit (UCO)
The British criminal now remains in custody, pending extradition proceedings.
