British man killed by tram in Barcelona
The tragic accident occurred in the Spanish city centre after a Pet Shop Boys concert
A 57-year-old Scottish man has died after being run over by a tram close to the Diagonal Mar commercial centre in Barcelona shortly after 11pm on Wednesday May 31. Concert-goers were flooding out of the Parc del Forum at the time of the accident where the Pet Shop Boys had performed on the opening night of the Primavera Sound 2023 music festival.
An investigation has been opened into the cuase of the British pedestrian's death and police are examining footage of the incident recorded by the tram company's cameras.
A companion who was with the victim when he was hit was unharmed but is receiving psychological support.
It was originally blieved that the man may have attended the Pet Shop Boys concert as crowds of fans could be seen leaving the stadium when he was run over, but the tram operator later confirmed that the victim had been walking in the opposite direction.
TRAM Barcelona expressed their regret over the tragic accident on Twitter:
"TRAM would like to send its condolences to the family and friends of the man who died in last night's tragedy."
