ARCHIVED - British tourist, 35, plunges to her death from Mallorca hotel window
The UK woman fell from a sixth floor window while holidaying in Spain
A 35-year-old British tourist has died after falling from the sixth floor of the four star Hotel Bellver in the Mallorcan capital of Palma on Sunday morning, September 4.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.30 in the morning but sadly, the holidaymaker couldn’t be saved and was pronounced dead by medics. The woman, who hasn’t yet been named, is believed to have been staying at the beach-side hotel with her partner.
Although the front of the stylish hotel overlooks the seaside promenade, it is understood that the tourist fell from a window at the back of the property above Calle Marques de la Cenia. The area has been cordoned off and a post-mortem will be carried out in the next couple of days.
Police on the Spanish island are now investigating her death, with the local homicide unit tasked with probing the circumstances surrounding what happened.
A spokesperson for the National Police in Mallorca said: “I can confirm an investigation has been launched into the death of a British woman at a hotel in Palma this morning.”
Incidents such as this are becoming all too common in Spain, prompting the Balearic Island government to implement a number of measures to clamp down on so-called ‘drunken tourism’.
On August 17, another British woman, aged 48, fell to her death from an eighth floor balcony at the four-star Hotel Melia in Palma and the previous month in neighbouring Ibiza, a 21-year-old Brit was left fighting for his life after plunging from a second floor terrace in Playa d’en Bossa.
