British tourist attacks policewoman in Magaluf
The holidaymaker won’t be allowed to leave Mallorca until he pays compensation
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, July 9, chaos erupted in the party hotspot of Magaluf in Mallorca. An 18-year-old British tourist went on a rampage, assaulting not just another tourist but also a local policewoman, leaving her injured and her phone in pieces.
It all started with a radio alert about an unconscious young British woman inside a popular restaurant, likely due to excessive alcohol consumption and a fall. Local Calvia police rushed to the scene and called for an ambulance.
But as they waited, a new disturbance caught their attention. A crowd began arguing and spilling out into the street, and the officers tried their best to quell the altercation. In the midst of this confusion, the 18-year-old tourist was seen viciously assaulting another holidaymaker.
When the officers attempted to break up the fight, the young man turned on them. He grabbed one officer by the arm, and when her partner tried to assist, he pushed her to the ground and slapped her repeatedly in a shocking display of aggression.
The police eventually managed to restrain the young man and handcuff him. The assaulted policewoman suffered multiple deep cuts to her knees and elbow, requiring medical treatment at a nearby medical centre. To make matters worse, her mobile phone was also damaged during the scuffle.
The tourist, who was staying at a local hotel, was promptly arrested and brought to court.
Although the holidaymaker still faces charges of assault, causing minor injury and damaging property, the judge eventually released him. However, his passport has been confiscated so he won’t be allowed to leave the island until he pays compensation for the officer’s mobile phone.
