Two UK holidaymakers got into a vicious brawl after squabbling over politics at a hotel bar in Spain
A British tourist has been rushed to a hospital in Mallorca with part of his earlobe missing and a gash to his neck after a bar room squabble with a fellow UK holidaymaker in the early hours of Saturday April 22.
According to local reports, a 35-year-old Briton was arrested for the attack by island police.
The shocking incident occurred at the popular Hotel Club Es Talaial at the Cala Egos beach in the eastern coastal resort of Cala d’Or. The attacker, the victim and his wife were all staying at the same resort and the latter told investigating officers that her husband was slashed during a heated argument about politics in the on-site pub.
Local reports claim the victim was “too drunk” immediately after the assault to give a statement before being transferred to Manacor Hospital. It’s not yet clear whether medics managed to reattach the missing part of his earlobe.
A spokesperson for the Civil Guard in Mallorca confirmed: “An arrest was made at a hotel in Cala d’Or in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“A British man was arrested on suspicion of a serious assault.”
Several hours passed between the attack and the arrest, and officers allegedly followed a trail of blood from the victim, who was passed out on a hotel sofa, to his aggressor’s room.
The 35-year-old British detainee appeared before an investigating magistrate shortly after his arrest and was released on bail. However, the authorities advised him that he would need to cough up almost 7,000 euros to recover his passport and return to the UK on Tuesday April 25, as planned.
