ARCHIVED - British woman returns home safe and well after disappearing in Tenerife
The UK holidaymaker vanished while walking her dogs in the southern town of Adeje
Mother of three Kate Barley, 60, who disappeared from the municipality of Adeje in the south of Tenerife a week ago, has returned home “tired and confused, but fine,” her relieved husband has confirmed.
Giuseppe Bizzarro was on a two month break in Tenerife with his wife when she vanished without a trace while taking their dogs for a walk on March 8. A panicked Giuseppe told the local police that this was very out of character for Kate, and he was convinced that it was not a “voluntary disappearance.”
SOS Desaparecidos agreed, and launched an “urgent” search for the British woman.
“I'm desperate for news of my wife,” the distraught husband said during the week as he combed the Tenerife beaches and countryside in search of Kate.
“We've been married 41 years and have three grown-up children and this is so out of character for her.
“She didn't say where she was going or what time she'd be back but she tended to go down to a beach near the place we own here and I've searched that high and low without any positive results.
”She had no problems in life, she wasn't depressed and she's never ever gone missing like this in all the time I've known her.
“I'm praying obviously it's not the case but that's why I fear something bad has happened to her. This is definitely not a voluntary disappearance.”
But against all odds, Kate returned home on Tuesday March 14 after being missing for almost a week. No explanation has been given for her disappearance but Giuseppe has reassured everyone who helped in the search that she is safe and well.
“My wife has only been home a few minutes and is tired and confused but she is fine.,” he said in an emotional message.
“Thank you to everyone for their help. I am happy this situation has been resolved in the best way.”
