British driver, 36, killed in head-on collision with rubbish truck in Spain
The horror crash in Ibiza left another man dead and two people seriously injured
A 36-year-old British man died when his Range Rover collided with a rubbish lorry in Ibiza in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 2. His 26-year-old passenger, whose nationality has not been released, also died in the accident.
The horror crash occurred close to the well-known Go-Karts Santa Eulalia when the driver of the 4x4 reportedly tried to overtake a Kia and smashed head first into an oncoming truck travelling in the opposite lane.
Two men sitting in the back seat of the jeep, aged 32 and 45, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
The two women in the Kia were also hurt although their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Both vehicles were written off and extensive damage was caused to the front of the rubbish lorry.
According to local reports, the Guardia Civil have opened an investigation into the tragedy in order to determine if the Range Rover overtook on a solid white line.
With these latest fatalities, the roads of Ibiza and Formentera have claimed 17 lives so far this year, which represents a considerable increase compared to 2022, when nine died throughout the year. This figure was reached at the end of June 2023, when fatalities from traffic accidents amounted to the same as in the entire previous year.
