Cabo Roig fundraising frenzy for St Patricks Day parade 2024
Golf, bowling, race nights and more all in aid of Spain’s biggest St Paddy’s celebration
The biggest celebration on the Irish expat calendar is just around the corner and Cabo Roig is in a fundraising frenzy, organising dozens of fun, family activities in aid of the biggest St Patrick’s Day parade in the country.
In fact, Cabo Roig’s incredible annual procession is one of the largest in Europe outside of Ireland. But the celebrations aren’t confined to the 3,000 or so Irish people living in the Vega Baja. With more than 20,000 spectators lining the Orihuela Costa strip each year, the festival fuses British and Irish culture with Spanish, showcasing the very best these specials nations have to offer.
More than 25 groups participate in the parade including dance troupes, musicians, local celebrities, ex vets and of course, St Patrick himself. The dedicated organisers outdo themselves year after year to make the parade bigger and better than ever, and the 2024 edition is no exception. Plans are in place to have the biggest floats yet and an additional 2,000 metres of bunting have been added, ensuring that Cabo Roig is painted green, white and gold.
In addition to the town hall, local businesses play a huge part in funding this unique tradition, organising an impressive variety of events in the lead-up to raise money. Some upcoming activities include McCafferty’s pub golf classic, a race night in O’Riordan’s, raffles in YOLO and Orihuela Costa Phone Shop, a Texas scramble organised by Milo’s Bar, a picturesque sponsored walk with Trinity Pub and a 10-pin bowling day with Smiling Jacks.
Full details of all the events can be found on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Facebook page.
As a true testament to their dedication and hard work, the parade committee will be honoured on February 22 with an award for the ‘Best Organised Parade and Festival for 2023’ in the Vega Baja.
This year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Cabo Roig will begin at 3.30pm on Sunday March 17.
