Camposol groups liaise with Council to add extra facilities to sports area
Additions to the football pitch and exercise area discussed at meeting wtih Mazarrón Council
The Camposol 2025 group, Camposol Business Association and Camposol Free Community Sports group (affiliated with Camposol D Sector Community and Gardening Group) met on September 19 with Mazarrón Councillor for Sport, Maria Isabel Carrillo, Mazarrón Councillor for Contracting, Andrés Aznar and Councillor Coordinator Pedro Muñoz to discuss the completion of the exercise area on Sector D of the urbanisation and the possible addition of more facilities.
The exercise area on Sector D came about after the proposal was voted as winner of a Citizen Budget Partcipation competition initiated by Mazarrón Council in 2022. Two exercise areas were proposed in the competition for Camposol, one on behalf of the Camposol 2025 group and one on behalf of the Camposol Business Association although in the adjudication phase the panel decided to submit one for the urbanisation. Another proposal entered by Camposol residents was for a Dog recreation park, which came runner-up and is now situated on Sector A.
Work started on the exercise area some months ago with a concrete base laid and various apparatus and equipment being installed including monkey bars, eliptical trainer, pedal seats, exercise bench, table tennis and games tables.
At the meeting it was pointed out that the exercise area still required a finishing surface layer and the entrance needed some attention, which the councillors agreed to take up with the contractor. In addition, the possibility of adding extra lines on the football pitch to facilitate basketball and badminton courts was also discussed along with lighting for the exercise area so it could be used in the evenings and a shaded area covering the 3 games tables. Talks were then expanded to the utilisation of the remaining sports designated land owned by the Council and the Camposol delegates presented a detailed plan, which included petanca courts, a pádel/pickleball court plus a small building to provide changing rooms and other facilities.
The Camposol Free Community Sports delegate added that his group, who use the football pitch and exercise area on a regular basis, had purchased some cycle racks and it was decided that these would be installed by the contractor when finishing the exercise area.
The councillors were very positive about the new project and although it was too late for the 2023 budget said projects similar to the one presented could be carried out over 2024 and 2025 budgets.
