Cartagena beaches: Cala de Las Escalerillas in Cabo de Palos

Cartagena beaches: Cala de Las Escalerillas in Cabo de Palos

A tiny cove with clear water on the northern shore of Cabo de Palos

Cala las Escalerillas is a small and picturesque rocky cove, located at the far end of Playa Levante, one of the most beautiful, and popular beaches on the Mediterranean coastline.

It’s a tiny cove, measuring 45 metres by 10 and is notable for its total absence of sand. However, the cove is very popular with snorkelers and swimmers, and lies on the edge of the Islas Hormigas marine reserve, one of the most important marine reserves in Europe.

The cove is accessed via steps from a walkway which runs along behind the beach, linking the busy and popular Playa Levante with the lighthouse. This then continues on around the headland to the marina, although it is far quicker just to walk across the road behind Playa Levante to the marina.

There are no services, and logically, no facilities, although plenty of services are available on Playa Levante nearby.

The closest parking is in the residential streets just behind the cove, although in summer these streets are quite busy, and shops and other facilities are approximately half a kilometre away, nearer the marina and port of Cabo de Palos.
