ARCHIVED - Cartagena residents warned to close doors and windows as mosquito spraying begins in outlying districts
Night-time fumigation this week from the Mar Menor in the east to Isla Plana and La Azohía in the west
The arrival of warm summer weather coupled with the abundant rainfall during the spring in the Costa Cálida has meant the start of the mosquito season in many areas - tiger mosquitos have already been seen in La Azohía and Isla Plana - and the Town Hall of Cartagena has announced night-time insecticide spraying this week in outlying districts.
The use of insecticides makes it necessary for residents to keep their doors and windows closed when spraying is taking place in their neighbourhood. Pets should also be kept indoors if at all possible.
The council warns that the areas affected over the next few days are the following:
During the night and early morning of 14th to 15th June: Residencial Buenos Aires, Molinos Marfagones, Canteras, Barriada Hispanoamérica, Los Dolores, El Bohío and La Palma.
During the night and early morning of 15th to 16th June: Pozo de Los Palos, El Palmero, San Isidro, La Magdalena, Cuesta Blanca, La Azohía and Isla Plana.
During the night and early morning of 16th to 17th June: La Puebla, La Aparecida, Miranda, La Aljorra, Lomas del Albujón, El Albujón and Pozo Estrecho.
During the night and early morning of 17th to 18th June: Media Legua, Vista Alegre, Alumbres, Llano del Beal, Estrecho de San Ginés, El Beal and El Algar.
Areas which have been sprayed will be clearly marked and walkers should avoid them until 12 midday the following day.
Further spraying is planned on four occasions during the summer, from 29th June to 2nd July, from 13th to 16th July, from 27th to 30th July and from 10th to 13th August.
