Mazarrón Council announce ceremony to rename popular Camposol park in honour of the late Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol, Silvana Buxton

Mazarrón Council in collaboration with the late Silvana Buxton’s husband have announced the ceremony to rename Central Park in Camposol’s Sector A, will take place at the southern corner of the park at the junction of Calle Jerez de le Frontera and Calle San Sebastián (opposite the Camposol Medical Centre) on Friday, April 12 starting at 11.00 am. The new name for the park will be “Parque Concejala Silvana Elisabetta Buxton” in honour of the late Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol and International Relations, who passed away on October 20 2023.

The renaming of the park was approved by Mazarrón Council at their full council meeting on October 31 2023 and the ceremony will take place a short distance from the children's playground which Silvana pushed through the council in 2019 following many years of lobbying by Camposol parents.

After many years with the Camposol Residents Association, becoming Vice President and then acting President and being the driving force behind the push to get the Murcia Regional Assembly to investigate the problems facing Camposol, Silvana soon realised that as the only Spanish speaker on the committee the best route was to be "on the inside” and with the blessing of the then CRA Committee stood in the 2019 municipal election as a PSOE Councillor, winning a seat and being appointed Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol and International Relations.

Silvana stood again in the 2023 municipal election and was re-elected, maintaing her previous post until the end of September 2023, a few weeks before she passed away.

Camposol residents are invited to the renaming ceremony which is expected to be attended by Mazarrón Mayor, Ginés Campillo, Deputy Mayor, Gaspar Miras, and other Mazarrón Councillors and staff. Refreshments are being arranged courtesy of Silvana’s husband at Marianos Restaurant after the ceremony.
