Christmas shopping will be bigger and brighter than ever before in Jumilla this year
The Local Council will put up larger Christmas lights and hand out decorations to local shops to turn the town into a winter wonderland
This festive period, Jumilla Town Hall is putting up even more and bigger Christmas lights to decorate and illuminate the town, and they will also be holding a competition to find the best decorated shop window display and Christmas wreath decorations with prizes worth up to 900 euros. As local Councillor for Trade in Jumilla, Paqui Simón, explained, this is part of the ‘Compra en Casa’ (Buy at Home) Christmas campaign, which has been prepared this year with the firm objective of “supporting local businesses and encouraging commercial activity in Jumilla over Christmas”.In an effort to boost the profile of the local highstreet stores, Jumilla’s council has purchased what they refer to as “decorative elements of considerable dimensions” that will be put up in the main shopping areas of the town.“In this way we will be able to satisfy the demand from shopkeepers who have been asking for more Christmas lighting for several years,” said Councillor Simón.As part of the Compra en Casa campaign, the establishments in the municipality that sign up to the campaign will also be decorated in a special way, with a red carpet at the door, a plant typical of the season and an artificial Christmas wreath to make them as festive as possible. It is also hoped that, by increasing the Northern Murcia town’s Christmas decorations this year, it will become a major stopping-off point for more tourists who visit the Region. The council is putting a total of 41,000 euros into this project, of which 35,000 euros come through a grant awarded to Jumilla by the Directorate General of Commerce of the Region of Murcia for this purpose. The rest will be provided by the City Council of Jumilla. For more local news, events and visiting information go to the home page of Jumilla TodayImage: Ayuntamiento de Jumilla
