Climate activists stage protest at Spanish Congress
Eco activist group Futuro Vegetal want Spain to abolish livestock farming

Scenes of chaos erupted in the Plenary Hall of Congress on Monday January 30 when activists from the environmental group Futuro Vegetal stormed the speaker’s rostrum and draped their flags over the podium.
Roughly translated as Plant-based Future, Futuro Vegetal believes that livestock farming in Spain is one of the biggest threats to the climate, and aim to establish an agri-food model in its stead.
This same group vandalised the popular children’s display Cortylandia in Madrid before Christmas and were responsible for amped-up security in museums across Spain after activists threw paint over a Tutankhamun mummy replica in Barcelona.
In their latest demonstration, three eco-activists took advantage of a lull between meetings when viewers are free to enter the gallery. The climbed onto the podiums and grabbed the microphones but were quickly tackled by Chamber staff and thrown out.
Although the protest was short-lived, Futuro Vegetal have flooded social media with pictures of the demonstration.
“We say #ENOUGH!!! This is a #ClimateEmergency!!!,” they wrote.
“The population is in danger and the powerful only think about their benefits. We will escalate in disruption until livestock is no longer subsidised.”
