Climbing temperatures at the start of August: Spain weather forecast July 31-Aug 3
The first week of August will be mostly dry and sunny across Spain with temperatures hovering around the mid 30s
August is traditionally the warmest month of the year in Spain and the next few days look to be no exception as Aemet meteorologist Ruben del Campo predicts a “hotter than normal” start to the month.
According to del Campo, August"will start out very warm in the southern half and cool in northern areas," then "warmer than normal weather may spread to a good part of the country."
He added that August is likely to be mostly dry, just like July 2023.
During the first week of the month, from July 31 to August 6, the weather will be mostly stable, with cloudy skies in the north of the country. In Galicia and the Cantabrian coast there will be a risk of rain and these showers may be "accompanied by an occasional storm" in the Pyrenees and eastern Catalonia.
Aemet’s forecast also predicts rain in the south of the Valencian Community, in the Balearic Islands and in the north of the Canary Islands.
The last day of the month, Monday July 31 will get off to a clear start in most of the country with the exception of inland areas in the east, where scattered showers are likely. Some isolated rainfall could also be seen in the eastern Mediterranean, particularly in the north of Alicante province.
Early morning mists and coastal fogs in the extreme south will clear as the day goes on. Overall, the temperatures are expected to drop ever so slightly in southern Spain, although the mercury will still hover around the mid-30s and Andalucia has been issued an orange weather warning for extreme heat.
The torrid nights are also set to hang around and those living on the Valencian and Andalucian coast shouldn’t expect the thermometers to dip below 24 or 26.
Orange weather alert for extreme heat: Andalucia.
Yellow weather alert for extreme heat: Aragon, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, Valencian Community.
A mostly clear day is forecast for much of the country on Tuesday August 1. However, an Atlantic front will bring overcast skies and occasionally heavy rain to western Galicia in the afternoon, and the cloudiness will spread to the rest of Cantabria later in the day.
Intervals of morning low clouds are also expected in the Mediterranean and other inland areas of eastern Spain, where the daytime temperatures will start to creep up once more.
Aemet expects the mercury to exceed 35ºC in much of the southern half of the country, the Costa del Sol and parts of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, while inland Murcia could top out at 40ºC.
Orange weather alert for extreme heat: Andalucia, Region of Murcia.
Yellow weather alert for extreme heat: Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, Valencian Community.
Wednesday August 2 will be stable in most of the country although the front will continue to affect the extreme north, leaving cloudy skies and heavy showers.
Morning mists are forecast along the Mediterranean while early fog banks in Cádiz and the Murcia coast should clear by early afternoon. Maximum temperatures will drop in the northwest but remain much the same elsewhere, hitting the mid 30s in the southern interior of the country.
Yellow weather alert for extreme heat: Andalucia, Aragon, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja, Valencian Community.
Very little change is expected on Thursday August 3 although the temperatures will thankfully fall a bit across the board, most notably in northeastern Spain. The night will be much warmer, however, in the Guadalquivir and areas of the southeast.
No weather alerts have been issued for Thursday.
