Clocks go back in Spain 2024: This is when Daylight Savings Time ends
Be prepared for the changing of the clocks
The long Spanish summer is finally over and winter is on its way. The evenings are drawing in and it is time for the clocks to go back.
Many Spaniards and expats alike are happy to see the back of the hottest months of the year, and jumpers are now being sought for, in the depths of closets, where they have been hiding for the past four or five months.
However, there is nothing that signifies the ending of the summer quite like the changing of the clocks. So the question is: when do they go back?
In 2024, Daylight Saving Time ends and clocks go back one hour in the early hours of Sunday October 27 from 3am to 2am, which means that night we’ll all have an extra hour of sleep.
Of course, these days smart phones and digital devices all change time automatically, but anyone who still uses a (non-smart) wristwatch or has a clock on the wall should change the time manually.
Talking of manuals, you probably can’t be bothered to dig around for one that tells you how to change the time on the microwave or oven, and it’s probably been flashing 00:00 since the fuses blew a few months ago, so don’t even worry about it.
Daylight Saving Time in Spain means that in the summer it stays lighter later into the evening, while in the winter the nights get darker earlier.
The objective of the changes twice a year is to adjust the working day with the daily daylight hours so that we can benefit from more natural light.
Crucially for us now at the backend of the year, this means that it will get lighter earlier in the mornings.
