ARCHIVED - Coastal storms and strong wind ahead as rain squall sweeps across Spain: weather outlook Nov 7-10
Temperatures will drop across Spain with the arrival of squall 'Martin'
Stormy, wet and windy conditions continue with the arrival of squall 'Martin' which will sweep across Spain this week.
The effects will be felt in most of the country, in particular in the north on Monday November 7, with the State Meterological Agency (Aemet) putting the Galician coast and the Cantabrian mountain range on alert for strong winds and a significant coastal storm.
Strong gusts of coastal wind are likely in A Coruña, Lugo, Pontevedra, Guipúzcoa, Vizcaya, Asturias and Cantabria, which are on orange alert (signficiant risk) of coastal phenomena and waves of up to seven metres high. The provinces of A Coruña and Lugo are also on yellow alert for gusts of 80 km/hour, as are Álava and Burgos.
Extensive fog will form in the northern plateau and Extremadura, which could persist until midday. Temperatures will fall across the board, with the exception of the Balearic Islands.
From Tuesday November 8 onwards, winds will become less intense but the rains will persist, heavier in Galicia and spreading to Cantabrian communities, Extremadura, western Andalusia, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, a large part of Castilla y León and Madrid.
Downpours are forecast in practically all of Spain on Wednesday November 9, heavier in Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Madrid, Castilla y León, La Rioja, Navarra, the Basque Country and Aragón, where rain could occasionally be accompanied by thunderstorms. As the day progresses, the unstable weather will make its way to the Balearic Islands.
It will also feel cooler at night, although autumnal conditions will persist during the day, with parts of Andalusia, the Canary Islands and Alicante reaching at least 26ºC.
Much of the Peninsula can expect brighter skies on Thursday November 10, although the rains will continue to dampen the east, the Balearic Islands, Murcia and Valencia, where thunderstorms are also forecast together with a drop in daytime and nighttime temperatures.
