ARCHIVED - Condado expat goes missing and Facebook mobilises to find him
The Condado de Alhama man had been missing for over 24 hours before he was found and taken to hospital “confused” but okay
A resident of Condado went missing while out on a bike ride on Monday May 2, but the community pulled together to get the word out to police and on social media to find him and bring him home safely.
John Lyman left his home on the Condado de Alhama urbanisation at 11.30am on Monday to go on a bike ride. He was due home for lunch but when he didn’t return his partner Jane began to worry.
The last sighting of John had been around 2pm in the Fuente Álamo area, and he was not wearing his shirt at the time.
John “wouldn’t normally go very far from the Condado/Camposol area” said a message shared on Facebook by friend Irene Curtis, who also detailed what John was wearing and stated he had “no cycle helmet and he wasn’t carrying a phone”.
The local community took to heart John and Jane’s plight, and shared the message to try and get the word out, so that anyone who spotted John or his bike might inform police and get him home safely.
Finally, last night, after more than 24 hours missing, it was reported that John had been found and is currently being looked after in a Cartagena hospital. Reports suggested he was “a little confused but otherwise he seems ok”.
“Thanks to everyone who shared this post and reported sightings of him,” concluded Irene. “It definitely helped us locate him.”
