DANA hits Spain with torrential rain and storms: Weather forecast March 3-6
The south of Spain will continue to be battered by heavy downpours all week

Weather alerts on Monday March 3
The first week of March has arrived with very unsettled weather across much of Spain thanks to a mass of cold air from the north clashing with warmer, more humid air, fuelling a low-pressure system from the south. This will lead to a drastic drop in temperatures, widespread rain and even snow.
Orange alerts for heavy rain and flooding have been activated for Monday March 3 in the Mediterranean and Andalucía, with some areas potentially seeing more than 100mm of rain in just 12 hours. The regions most at risk include inland Valencia, the southern coast of Tarragona and inland northern and southern Castellón.

Weather forecast on Monday March 3
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), this pocket of cold air, more commonly referred to as a DANA, will move into the north of the country and gradually make its way to Portugal as the days go by but before this happens, Spain can expect plenty of overcast skies and more stormy intervals.
The weather warnings have been downgraded to yellow on Tuesday March 4 but the Region of Murcia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands are still on alert for heavy downpours, strong winds and dangerous sea conditions.

Weather forecast on Tuesday March 4
Northern Spain will avoid the worst of the rain but between Monday and Friday, the downpours will be widespread in the south and east of the country on Wednesday March 5, particularly in Andalucía, Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha, Madrid, the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. Heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of the Canary Islands and more isolated areas in the Balearic Islands.

Weather forecast on Wednesday March 5
The weather will worsen on Thursday March 6, with Aemet forecasting more overcast skies and intense, widespread rain in southern Spain.
As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to rise, with milder conditions developing by midweek as the winds die down. Some southern and northern cities may even see temperatures above 20°C, with Bilbao and Cadiz potentially reaching similar highs of around 20°C on Wednesday.

Weather forecast on Thursday March 6
The Canary Islands and several southern and eastern capitals will also experience temperatures around this mark.
