ARCHIVED - Darth Vader makes a unique marriage proposal in Murcia
A groom-to-be emerged from a coffin to propose to his bride on a packed Murcia bar terrace

There’s a lot of expectation on young people these days to come up with a truly unique way to propose to their intended, and the loved-up in Murcia are certainly rising to the challenge. Last week, we saw a man create a flashmob in a city square to ask his boyfriend to marry him, but one Fortuna local took things much further and went intergalactic when asking his partner to tie the knot.
In a bizarre scene that pulled dozens of people from neighbouring bars and restaurants, a group of young men were recorded carrying a coffin through the city streets shortly after 9pm. The eerie procession was accompanied by a musical drum beat provided by the Fortuna municipal band (a group, it turns out, that the would-be groom is part of).
The following crowd continued to swell until the pallbearers reached one particular bar and set the coffin on the ground, in front of a terrace full of stunned diners and the bride-to-be.
If the situation wasn’t strange enough up until now, spectators were in for yet another shock when the coffin lid lifted and none other than Darth Vader himself stepped out, to the iconic sound of the Star Wars Imperial March played by the Fortuna musicians.
Just to show that romance isn’t totally dead, the Darth Vader lover boy danced a few steps himself carrying a sign reading “I hope you say no” before removing his mask and launching into an a capella rendition of Elvis Presley’s hit, ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’.
At this emotional juncture, he presented a ring to his teary bride and proposed to her in front of throngs of onlookers. The girl said ‘Yes’ to riotous applause from the gathered crowd before the two youngsters left Fortuna on the back of a truck.
