Dogs and their humans unite for a pawsome cause in Los Alcázares
CANpanadas charity event raises nearly €800 to support local animal rescues
On Sunday January 11, Los Alcázares buzzed with tail-wags and good cheer as the first-ever CANpanadas brought together around 30 dogs and their owners for a day of fun and fundraising.Organised by Top Dog Hotel Canine and Feline Residence in partnership with the Ayuntamiento's Animal Welfare Department, the event mixed pet activities, socialising, and a raffle packed with donations from local businesses. The grand total? Nearly €800, all heading straight to Patitas Unidas Los Alcázares and Mypu, two groups dedicated to rescuing and caring for homeless animals.
The money will cover essentials like vet bills, food, and daily care for animals waiting for their forever homes. The rescue groups shared their delight at both the funds and the extra spotlight on their vital work, which helps break down barriers around adoption and encourages more people to get involved through fostering, volunteering, or donations.
Isabel Padilla, the Animal Welfare councillor at the Ayuntamiento, couldn't praise it enough. "The public response has been very positive and demonstrates the strong bond that exists in Los Alcázares with companion animals," she said. She added that CANpanadas was dreamed up as "an original event created with the intention of becoming an annual charity event," so expect more doggy delight next year with even bigger participation.
Local businesses played a starring role too, filling a charity basket with goodies that flew off in the raffle. The Ayuntamiento singled out Top Dog Hotel, the sponsors, and every single attendee for turning this into such a success.
