ARCHIVED - Drunk Belgian tourist (46), marched off Ryanair flight in Spain after trying to open emergency door
The Malaga-bound flight was eventually cancelled altogether because of the huge delay caused by the intoxicated passenger
It’s been a stressful few months for holidaymakers, what with countless delays and cancelled flights, and passengers on Ryanair flight FR9108 in Spain were subjected to yet more chaos on Saturday July 2.
The exasperated travellers were stuck in Mahón airport in Menorca for an additional four hours as their flight to Malaga was delayed, but when they eventually got to board the Boeing 737-800 it turns out the drama was just beginning.
Fed up with the wait, a 46-year-old Belgian tourist arrived on the plane in an intoxicated state and immediately began harassing the other passengers. Although several people pleaded with the man to settle down, pointing out that there were small children and babies on the flight, he proceeded to kick and punch the seats of the aircraft and even tried to force the emergency door open.

The Belgian holidaymaker loudly demanded that the flight set off for Malaga, seemingly unaware that he was causing yet more delays for his fellow passengers. The crew was alerted and the police came on board, but the Belgian refused to leave the aircraft, instead throwing himself on top of other travellers.
He was eventually subdued and arrested.
Much to the chagrin of the remaining passengers, because of the huge delay Ryanair missed its departure spot and had no choice but to cancel the flight to Malaga. Around 180 people had to disembark and the airline rebooked them on alternative flights.
Just a day later, easyJet passengers on their way from London Gatwick to the same Mahón airport in Menorca were surprised when their plane was intercepted by a Spanish fighter jet in response to a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax by a British teen online.
