ARCHIVED - EcoGiving: the new online shop that helps you buy eco products while donating to charity
EcoGiving is a new online shop that helps local communities purchase the best eco products while donating to their favourite charity
Garry Robey has been a well-respected brand architect for the past 20 years and has seen trends come and go, but nothing has been more important to him than reducing plastic, food waste and products tested on animals.
Garry and his wife, Tammy, who have lived in a ‘zero plastic house’ in Torrox (Malaga) for five years, have always taken active roles in the community. The couple have organised and participated in numerous beach clean-ups during this time, along with supporting local charities and worthy causes.
However, Garry quickly realised there was a problem connecting the community to charities that so desperately need regular funding, which instigated his decision to launch ecogiving.org, an online store setup to help local communities shop for the best eco-products in the EU and also donate to their favourite charity.
The missing link
Garry and Tammy, whose vocation is to reduce plastic and waste in the world, became concerned that there was no additional support for the important work that local charities undertake in Spain.
They realised that there was a “big link missing” and so they decided to “connect the dots” in order to help charities secure regular donations from the local communities.
“We have over 150 charities already lined up at the moment, although I am hoping that by the end of this year, we will have 500 charities linked to online store. We have a target to raise 2.4 million euros for charities across Spain over the next 12 months,” Garry explained.
Garry’s “mission” is to bring communities closer and help local charities, schools and animal shelters while saving the planet.
How it works
The store offers a range of, household, cleaning and hygiene products, along with a selection of kitchen and pet accessories. When the consumer purchases a product, a line share of the profit margin is donated to charity.
The site allows for any NGO, school or religious establishment, with zero outlay, to register on the site, and the consumer can decide which cause their donation goes to.
“We are an online shop that sells the best plastic-free, vegan certified products that are all manufactured in the UK and Europe. Everything is very concise and transparent. The consumer is informed exactly how much they are donating.
“We donate 60 to 70% of our profits back to our partners and you cannot checkout unless you choose a charity at checkout or click through a dedicated affiliate link.”
