ARCHIVED - Eighth annual Early Music Festival in Lorca: October 7 to 16
The eighth edition of the Lorca Early Music Festival (MVSAL) is returning to the municipality this month, with six early and baroque music recitals and concerts between October 7 and October 16.

Concerts will be held at some of Lorca’s most emblematic venues, including Lorca Castle and the Chapel of Rosario-Santo Domingo, aiming to highlight the municipality’s history as well as showcasing early music.

Although normally there is no need to pre-register or collect tickets in advance, this year, those interested in attending must pre-book their tickets by calling 968 462 998. Tickets are free of charge but there is a voluntary donation of three euros at the entrance of each concert.

This year’s programme is as follows:
 • Thursday October 7, 8.30pm: ‘Songs of the English and Spanish Renaissance’ by the duo Pedro Pérez and Ignacio Portillo at the Lorca Castle Synagogue.
 • Friday October 8, 8.30pm: organ concert with music from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries by Silva Márquez at the San Francisco Church.
 • Monday October 11, 8.30pm: baroque cello and theorbo concert ‘Antonio Caldara and the cello in Spain’ by the duo Josetxu Obregón and Daniel Zapico at the Chapel of Rosario-Santo Domingo.
 • Thursday October 14, 8.30pm: ‘Ellas en Bizancio’ concert by female Early Music group, DeMusica Ensemble, at the Casa del Artesano.
 • Friday October 15, 8.30pm: ‘Madrigales de Monteverdi. 16th and 17th centuries’ by the vocal quintet, Cantoría, at the Clarisas Convent.
 • Saturday October 16, 8.30pm: a special concert dedicated to Lorca with the title “Lorca, bastion of the border from Alfonso X to the Catholic Monarchs” performed by the group Ministriles de San Miguel at San Patricio.
