El Valle is a Nicklaus-designed, 18-hole, par 71 course
The El Valle Golf Resort course is a Nicklaus Design 18-hole Par 71 course, and has hosted the European Tour Qualifying School and The Spanish Senior Open.The course’s desert theme is reinforced by the rocks, cacti and other desert plants which shape the 6,185 metres (6,764 yards) of this testing design, and two manmade lakes complete the scenery, one of them visible from the clubhouse terrace. Not for nothing is El Valle designated “The Tournament Course” within the list of six on the Nicklaus Trail! It’s both beautiful and difficult at the same time.
The undulations and bunkers make this perhaps the most picturesque of the Trail courses, and whichever tees you choose to play from there are plenty of challenges, as El Valle relies on the many outcrops, undulating fairways and greens to give even the most experienced player a good challenge.However, it rewards players with accuracy and good course management skills. An example is the 2nd hole, a 400-metre par 4, stroke index 2, which demands a long straight tee shot, with bunkers to the left and right waiting to catch anything even slightly off line. This will normally be followed by a fairway wood or long iron to an elevated green: fall short and you roll off the big slopes guarding the right hand side, err long and you have an almost impossible chip to the fast and sloping green. Par is a good score on this hole!
Two other spectacular holes are the 8th, with its daunting mountain backdrop, and the short par-4 11th, which starts on an elevated tee affording spectacular views across the course to the Mar Manor in the distance. At just 271m off the white tees, 260m off yellow and 186m off the red it tempts a high-risk tee shot which could easily make or break your round!As at all Polaris resorts, the comprehensive golf facilities include the clubhouse, the pro shop, a driving range and a golf school with experienced instructors, and the course is kept in perfectly manicured condition.
