ARCHIVED - Emergency services in Murcia respond to 42 calls due to the wind
The relentless wind has finally eased off in the Region of Murcia
Like much of the rest of Spain, the Region of Murcia was battered by incredibly strong winds over the weekend, which reached up to 70 kilometres per hour in some areas.
The emergency services in the Region responded to 42 different wind-related issues over the weekend, including 30 cases of road blockages. Twelve of the incidents took place in the municipality of Murcia, eight were in Cartagena and the rest were in various other municipalities.
Some of the most notable consequences of the gale took place in the city of Murcia, where a palm tree in the Plaza Santo Domingo was knocked down by the wind, and in Yecla, where a 40-year-old wall fell down and blocked a road. Fortunately, no one was hurt by any of the incidents.
Although initially the weather warnings for wind had been extended to Monday November 29, Aemet has since updated the forecast and the wind appears to have subsided, with maximum gales of around 40km/h on the coast and around 50km/h inland forecast for this Monday.
However, the neighbouring province of Alicante, and the rest of the region of Valencia, is still on alert for extreme wind and weather conditions.
