The 16th-century Casa del Artesano de Lorca will get a new lease of life next month, playing host to the VII edition of Artisan Week between February 13 and 23.
This historic building will be filled with crafts of every description, as well as live demonstrations and artisan workshops daily. According to Commerce Councillor Mayte Martínez, the main aim of the fair is to promote Lorca’s unique goods and products.
“This activity is aimed at all audiences but, especially, schoolchildren, associations and tourist groups of all kinds. There, attendees will be able to enjoy demonstrations and workshops of different traditional crafts, as well as a wide exhibition of work carried out in professional workshops. Its objective, in addition to promoting Lorca crafts and local commerce, is to make known these crafts that, for centuries, our ancestors have handed down to us, with the idea that this legacy can be remembered and disseminated by present and future generations,” the councillor said.
Artisan Week will run from Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 12pm, and again from 5pm to 7pm, and Lorca City Council recommends that visitors book ahead for any group tours or workshops they may be interested in attending.
Reservations can be made by calling 0034 968 320 898 or by popping in to Casa del Artesano de Lorca ahead of time.
Scheduled workshops and demonstrations include:
“All the items on display are for sale, which not only allows local commerce to be promoted, but also allows the public to enjoy exquisite typical products, and take home a little bit of our history,” the councillor concluded.
