Fiestas in Cehegin


Cehegín has a number of Fiestas and Festivals each year

Main festivals in Cehegín.

Fiestas in CeheginCehegín celebrates a series of Fiestas and festivities throughout the year in the main town and surrounding pedanías.


20th January The Festivities of San Sebastian. These include the Hoguera de San Sebastian, or bonfire of San Sebastian, which follows a torchlit procession from the former hermitage of San Sebastian on the outskirts of town to the Plaza de la Constitución in the heart of the old quarter where the bonfire is lit.
January. The pedanía of Valentín celebrates fiestas in honour of San Antón with a bonfire and annual Romería to the Embalse del Argos, the reservoir, where a mass is held in honour of San Anton, along with a community BBQ. A blessing of the animals service is also held in the parroqúia of Valentín.

40 days before Easter, Cehegín celebrates its Carnaval, which is growing in importance each year as the "Carnival of the Northwest."

Semana Santa includes a number of processions, and has some important pasos amongst its collection, including the Virgen de las Angustias which is by Roque López.
15th June . The pedanía of Canara celebrates its fiestas in honour of the Virgen de Agosto.

24th June, The Pedanía of Valentín celebrates its fiestas in honour of San Juan. These are large fiestas and include a variety of activities including bull running.
In June Cehegín also celebrates the Fiestas of La Pila and Fiestas in the Barrio of San Antonio.

July. The pedania of Carrasquilla in Cehegín celebrates its fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Carmen.
July The pedanía of El Escobar celebrates its Fiestas in honour of the Virgen de las Nieves

August The feria and Fiestas in honour of San Zenon fill the town with bull running and bullfights.


8th to 14th September Cehegín itself celebrates its Fiestas Patronales in honour of the Virgen de las Maravillas, the patrona of Cehegín. These are substantial Fiestas, with a large Recinto ferial, and area for the peñas, with musical concerts and entertainments.

8th December . Fiestas in the Pedania of Campillo de los Jiménez, in honour of the Virgen del Rosario.
