ARCHIVED - Firefighters extinguish blaze caused by an electric scooter in a house in Alhama de Murcia
Firefighters from the Region of Murcia's Fire Extinction and Rescue Consortium (CEIS) were called out to an unusual fire in Alhama de Murcia.
Along with the Local Police of Alhama de Murcia, firefighters attended a fire at a house in Alhama de Murcia on July 1, the origins of which came from an electric scooter that caught alight whilst charging.
The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre of the Region of Murcia received a call at around 6.55 pm after the fire was noticed at a house in Santa Bárbara Street in Alhama de Murcia.
Thankfully, CEIS firefighters were able to stop the blaze from the electric scooter and no one was injured as a result, although there was some property damage.
Electric scooters have been prominent in the news recently, with several incidents of severe injuries caused by riders colliding with vehicles/pedestrians/immovable objects such as signposts and trees, as a result of which, new legislation governing their use is currently under examination.
