ARCHIVED - Five Spanish police officers arrested on drug trafficking charges
The officials were apprehended following an operation to crack down on drug trafficking in Extremadura
As part of a national operation against drug trafficking currently being carried out in various municipalities in Extremadura, the Internal Affairs Unit of the National Police in conjunction with the Guardia Civil has detained several officers for alleged narcotics crimes. A total of twenty two arrests have been made so far.
According to the General Directorate of the Police, a complex network of criminals settled in the province of Badajoz dedicated to growing and selling marijuana, and the operation, which is still ongoing, led to the arrests of several individuals, including five police men and one Guardia Civil officer, following searches of more than 20 premises.
In addition, four indoor marijuana plantations containing more than 3,000 plants were dismantled and a number of tools used for preparing the drugs were seized.
