Foreign cyclist, 70, killed in Torre Pacheco
The man was hit by a car on the border of Torre Pacheco and San Javier

A 70-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while out cycling on the RM-F38 road, close to the border between Torre Pacheco and San Javier. The accident happened at around 9.24am on Tuesday morning, August 18, on the stretch of road between the towns of Dolores de Pacheco and Pozo Aledo, and involved the man's bicycle, a car and a truck.
According to initial findings from an investigation by the Guardia Civil, the cyclist, who was of North African origin, was struck by the car while both were travelling in the same direction along the road.
The Region of Murcia's 112 Emergency Coordination Centre received a number of calls shortly after the collision, alerting them to the accident and to the seriousness of the cyclist's injuries. A Mobile Emergency Unit from the 061 Health Emergency and Urgent Care Management service was sent to the scene, where paramedics attempted to treat the injured man. Sadly, despite their efforts, they were only able to confirm that he had died as a result of his injuries.
Guardia Civil officers took charge of the scene, both regulating traffic in the area and beginning the process of establishing exactly how the accident occurred.
