ARCHIVED - Free and discounted public transport measures in Spain to be extended into 2023
Discounted train and bus travel in Spain will not finish at the end of this year, as originally planned
As part of its new budget for 2023, Spain has allocated more money than ever before towards social projects which aim to ease the financial burden on thousands of ordinary families.
One popular measure already introduced earlier this year was that of free travel on Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, plus 30% discounts on urban buses between September and December 2022.
Now, those public transport measures are set to be extended in 2023.
All Renfe medium-distance and commuter trains will remain free throughout 2023 for those who book their regular passes in advance, while the central government in Madrid has asked each autonomous community to review, before the end of the year, how long they will extend their own travel measures for.
Aside from the rail and bus card discounts, Spain’s 2023 budget includes measures to help ease the economic strain on families with young children, along with several other measures.
