Orihuela's tourism board has put together a series of guided walks for January

<span style='color:#780948'>ARCHIVED</span> - Free Feast of San Anton tour in Orihuela: January 14

2022 kicks off in Orihuela with a month of free guided tours, including a walk dedicated to the Feast of San Antón in the neighbourhood which bears his name.

The patron saint of animals, San Antón was a Christian monk in third and fourth century Egypt, and every year his feast day is celebrated in Spain in ceremonies where priests give their blessing to pets brought to church by their owners.

The festival is actually celebrated on Monday January 17, but the special tour in Orihuela will take place the weekend before, when participants will learn more about the patron saint and other traditions.

The programme of tours for January is as follows:

Friday January 14, 5.30pm: San Antón tour, departing from Puerta de la Olma, San Antón neighburhood.
Saturday, January 15, 11am: San Antón tour, departing from Puerta de la Olma, San Antón neighburhood.
Friday January 21, 7pm: El Juglar y las Historias de su Hogar (The Minstrel and his Home Stories), starting at Orihuela Tourist Office.
Saturday January 22, 7pm: Experience Orihuela in the Middle Ages, starting at Orihuela Tourist Office.
Friday January 28, 7pm: Legado andalusí tour (Andalusian legacy), departing from Puerta de la Olma.
Saturday January 29, 7pm: La Armengola theatrical route, departing from Puerta de la Olma.

Places must be reserved in advance via Orihuela Turismo.
