ARCHIVED - Further step forwards towards resurrection of Las Dunas commercial centre in Cabo de Palos
The local government has approved the next steps in the plan to finally reopen Las Dunas after years of inactivity
In a meeting on Thursday (June 10), the Local Government Board has approved the next steps in the plan to reopen the Las Dunas commercial centre in Cabo de Palos.
Las Dunas shopping centre, located next to the weekly market, has been in disuse for around a decade and the proprietors' association of Las Dunas has been fighting for the centre to be allowed to resume its commercial activity for several years.
The administrative process of modifying the Partial Plan CP2 to allow businesses from the tertiary sector to operate in the centre was started in 2016. Since then the commercial installation has undergone a strategic environmental assessment, which concluded that the modification from hotel use to tertiary sector use would have no significant effects on the environment.
Once the next step of the project is approved, the premises in Las Dunas can finally be reoccupied by different businesses, boosting the commercial activity in the area.
The centre occupies around 30,000 square feet in total and includes two buildings, a 7,800-square metre-road and a large open-air space.
