Murcia weather warnings, Monday January 16

While other parts of Spain have heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and snow this week, it will be a very different story in the Region of Murcia, which will see largely sunny weather.

Early in the week, though, strong winds in the Region of Murcia have led the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to issue yellow weather warnings in the southeast and northeast for Monday January 16, extending into the northwest and along the coast on Tuesday. They are predicting gusts of wind of up to 80kmh (50mph) in some areas and waves of between 3 and 4 metres high.

These strong winds will die down as the week goes on, and as yet no weather alerts have been issued for Wednesday, but windspeeds could still be in excess of 35kmh around Cartagena, San Javier and the Mar Menor.

Despite the high winds early this week, as yet there is no rain or snow forecast for Murcia this week, even though the neighbouring provinces of Almeria and Albacete are due to receive heavy rainfall and snowdrifts on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.

In Murcia, the forecast is for sunny weather most of the week, with some overcast periods, especially leading into next weekend on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22. But for the most part there will be the same sunny conditions we have come to expect recently, albeit with a notable drop in temperatures.

By the end of the week, daytime maximum temperatures will not even reach above 15ºC, while minimums at night time will begin to drop below 0ºC, especially around the north and centre of the Region.
