German man arrested for sexual assault at Ibiza nightclub
The 26-year-old attacked a young woman and her friend at the Spanish resort
The National Police in Ibiza have arrested a 26-year-old German man on Thursday May 18 for sexually assaulting one woman and physically attacking her friend.
According to investigating officers, the police were called to a nightclub in the heart of the resort and informed that the security guards had detained the man after complaints from other customers. He was reportedly in company with the two young victims at the disco, though it’s not clear if they knew each other or had just met that night.
When they arrived at the scene, the officers saw that the women were already being taken care of by healthcare workers and went to meet with the security personnel who were holding the alleged attacker.
The staff explained they had witnessed the German man slapping one of the women so hard on the backside that he knocked her to the ground. He then turned on her friend who had tried to defend the victim, and physically attacked her before security intervened.
Officers of the Family and Women’s Care Unit (Ufam) of the National Police have taken charge of the investigation. The suspect was arrested at the nightclub and has since appeared before a judge and been charged with crimes of sexual assault and causing injury.
Police haven’t revealed whether the man lives on the island or was holidaying in Spain at the time of the attack.
