German supermarket giant continues its expansion with new Murcia store

Lidl’s latest supermarket will open in Murcia city at the end of February, its fourth in the Region in a year

It seems there’s no stopping Lidl as it rapidly expands across Spain, and the latest addition to the German discount supermarket empire is earmarked for Murcia city.

This store is not technically a new one, but a re-launch of an old Lidl supermarket after extensive renovations. On February 28, the store on Avda. Juan de Borbón 228, at the entrance to the shopping centres, will once again open its doors to shoppers. The premises has been completely remodelled and expanded, with a floor area of more than 1,430 m².

This new location will join three others that the German chain opened in the Region of Murcia during 2024, with new stores in Lorca, Yecla and El Esparragal.

Elsewhere this year, Lidl has plans to branch out in Lugo (Galicia) and Villares de la Reina (Castilla y León), as well as Murcia, totalling more than 4,500 square metres of commercial space between them and expanding its network of establishments, which already exceeds 700 supermarkets.

To achieve this growth, it will invest 16 million euros, which will mean the creation of 58 new jobs.

Lidl has also recently launched a logistics centre in Constantí (Tarragona), while work is progressing on the construction of a new warehouse in Martorell (Barcelona), which will represent Lidl's largest logistics investment since its arrival in Spain three decades ago.
