German tourist found dead in Sierra Nevada after disappearing in November
A couple of hikers discovered the tourist’s body in the Andalucía mountains this week

The body of a 32-year-old German man missing in Granada since last November has been found frozen in a gully in the Sierra Nevada. The tragic discovery was made by two hikers who had deviated slightly off the main path while descending from Mulhacén, the highest mountain peak in the Iberian Peninsula.
The tourist’s body was buried in a block of ice near the top of a crevice, and early investigations suggest the man sought shelter in the gully after suffering a fall, and was unable to get back out.
The victim’s family in Germany reported him missing in November when they were unable to contact him, and the Guardia Civil launched a large-scale search of the Granada mountain range. Although rescuers found several items, including the hiker’s wallet and mobile phone, no trace of the man himself was discovered.
Sadly, the onset of winter and increased snowfall forced the search to be called off shortly after, and the young man’s relatives have criticised the fact that it has taken the Spanish authorities almost six months to locate him.
His body has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Granada where a post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death, but at the moment everything points to an accident.
The discovery of the lifeless body of the German tourist brings to four the number of foreign deaths in the Granada mountains this season.
On December 14, two Hungarian women were found dead in Hoya de la Mora just 200 metres from their hostel. The hypothesis is that the pair took shelter under a pine tree and subsequently died from hypothermia.
Around the same time, a young Belarusian hiker also succumbed to the weather when a strong storm unexpectedly hit the area.
