ARCHIVED - German tourist killed while lying on Spanish motorway
Police believe the holidaymaker had been partying with friends in Mallorca prior to the fatal accident

A young German tourist was hit by a car and killed in Mallorca on Saturday night, October 8, as he was lying in the middle of the unlit Llucmajor motorway.
Officials now believe that the 20-year-old holidaymaker may have been drunk and lay down in the busy road when he became disorientated. The tragic accident occurred at around 10.30pm, shortly after the young man left a nightclub for his hotel. However, it appears that he was walking in the wrong direction.
The car, a Renault Clio, ran over the tourist close to the Son Noguera industrial estate. The driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol and said he simply didn’t see the young man lying there as that stretch of road has no lights.
Police and medics rushed to the scene but sadly the young man was pronounced dead. According to official sources, there is nothing to suggest that the holidaymaker was hit by another car before being run over.
Investigating officers are now trying to track down the man’s friends who may be able to piece together a timeline of the events leading up to his death.
