ARCHIVED - Giant fish washes up dead on Guardamar del Segura beach
A local resident spotted the 40 kilo unidentifed species at Playa de Babilonia in the Vega Baja, Alicante province

The lifeless body of a large and, as yet, unidentified fish believed to weigh around 40 kilos has washed up on Guardamar del Segura's Playa de Babilonia.
The creature was spotted by local resident Vicente Tafalla who was walking along the seashore close to the port when he spotted what he initially feared was a body on Thursday morning, January 13.
He explained that he noticed something in the distance, but didn't know what it was. "I didn't know if it was a human body or a large fish," he told the press.
Once it became clear the corpse was that of a large marine species, he estimated its weight at between 30 and 40 kilos.
Guardamar del Segura Local Police were on the scene at around 12 noon to inspect the creature, which doesn't appear to have any external injuries, and arrange for its removal.
