Grandfather and grandson attacked by Irish teens in Mallorca bar row
Two 18-year-old tourists are under investigation after a violent attack outside a bar left a 71-year-old man needing surgery

Calvià is a municipality on the southwest coast of Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, and includes popular holiday resorts like Magaluf and Santa Ponça.
The assault took place after a confrontation earlier in the evening at a local bar. Witnesses say the two 18-year-olds, along with several others, waited outside the establishment for nearly 40 minutes before launching a surprise attack as the victims left.
Without warning, the pair began punching and kicking the grandfather and his grandson in what is being described by local media as a premeditated assault. The elderly man suffered facial fractures and required emergency surgery. His grandson was also hurt and taken to hospital.
Both of the alleged attackers were arrested and appeared in court, where they pleaded guilty. They were later released on provisional bail after each posting €2,000.
The incident has sparked criticism from local residents and business owners who are growing increasingly concerned about safety in popular tourist areas. While the authorities have yet to make a formal statement, the case has highlighted rising tensions around visitor behaviour and public security in busy resort towns.
