Heavy rainfall causes flooding, rescues and disruption across Andalucía
Emergency services have been forced to rescue stranded motorists and respond to dozens of incidents after a weekend of intense rain

In Jerez, firefighters rescued 40 people from 20 vehicles after they became trapped between kilometres 78 and 85 of the AP-4 motorway. The flooding was caused by the overflowing Arroyo Salado river, which had burst its banks due to the intense rainfall throughout Monday March 3. The rescue operation took place late in the evening, with emergency services working to ensure all passengers were safely evacuated.
Málaga was also hit hard by the stormy weather. Between Sunday March 2, and Monday March 3, 112 Andalucía received 70 emergency calls related to heavy rainfall, with around half of these coming from Málaga province. Most incidents involved waterlogged roads, minor flooding in homes and garages, and fallen trees or branches. While there were no reports of serious injuries, the heavy rain caused significant inconvenience for residents and motorists alike.
Other areas in Andalucía also faced difficulties due to the rain, with reports of vehicles becoming stranded and roads being submerged. Emergency services remained on high alert throughout the region, dealing with localised flooding and road safety concerns. Fortunately, despite the widespread disruptions, no serious structural damage or life-threatening incidents were reported.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to flooding. Drivers are advised to check road conditions before setting out, as further rainfall could worsen conditions in the coming days.
